Our expertise

RESTORE INSTEAD OF REPLACING, WHEN POSSIBLE

Not all facades need to be completely redone. Sometimes it was a section of 20 bricks that froze. Other times, it's an entire facade that has 80 years of freeze-thaw in the body. Our work starts with an honest diagnosis: what needs to be replaced, what can be retained, and how much will it cost.

Damaged bricks are replaced with old, fitted stock for an invisible result. The joints are redone with a compatible mortar. And when a complete renovation is necessary, the facade is rebuilt respecting the original architectural style.

RECOGNIZE THE SIGNS IN TIME

WARNING SIGNS

A joint that crumbles, a crack that widens, water that comes back to the same place. They are signals. The longer you wait, the heavier the intervention and the more the bill goes up. Here's what to look out for.

MISSING BRICKS

Wall sections with multiple bricks moved or missing.

DAMAGED JOINTS ON A LARGE SURFACE

Crumbled mortar on a large portion of the facade.

REPAIRS THAT DON'T LAST

Recurrent infiltrations despite work already done.

PERSISTENT DISCOLORATION

Stains or deposits that do not go away despite cleaning.

MUNICIPAL NOTICE

The City or an inspector requests corrective work.

CRUMBLING BRICKS

Brick surface that peels, bursts, or falls apart

Why choose MBNL?

Your facade in good hands

Repointing, replacing bricks, re-sealing, with materials compatible with your building, not the quickest to install.

Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about masonry repair

  • Can masonry be repaired while maintaining the heritage style of the building?

Yes. MBNL pays particular attention to respect for architectural and heritage style during any repair. We select bricks whose format, color and texture are as close as possible to the existing one, and we use mortars adapted to the original materials to avoid long-term damage.

  • Is the repair work guaranteed?

Yes. All masonry repair work carried out by MBNL is covered by a written guarantee, whose conditions are specified in your estimate before the start of work.

  • What is the difference between a masonry repair and a simple joint?

The Joining consists only in replacing worn mortar joints between the bricks, without touching the bricks themselves. La masonry repair is a more comprehensive job: it includes replacing damaged bricks, correcting underlying structural problems, and restoring the entire facade. MBNL assesses the real condition of your masonry and recommends the most suitable solution. Sometimes a joint is enough; in other cases, only a complete renovation ensures the sustainability of the work.

  • Can MBNL work on a listed or heritage building?

Yes. Our team has the expertise required to work on heritage buildings, with the attention to detail that these properties require. We also support our customers in the procedures to obtain Heritage Restoration Assistance Program (PARP) grants from the City of Montreal, as well as provincial tax credits available for classified buildings.

  • How often should masonry repairs be planned?

There is no fixed frequency: everything depends on the quality of the original materials, exposure to bad weather and the maintenance carried out over the years. In general, a well-maintained brick facade can last several decades without major repairs. During the diagnosis, our experts will tell you whether work is needed now or whether follow-up in a few years is sufficient. Ask for your free inspection At 438.225.2169.
